A Numerical Evaluation of Coal Seam Permeability Derived from Borehole Gas Flow Rate

Coal seam permeability is a critical factor in coal gas extraction and outburst control. In Australian mines, normally estimated using packer test or drill stem test. contrast, Chinese mines generally estimate parameter called the “gas conductivity coefficient” by measuring natural flow rates from an underground borehole drilled through seam. With this method, it has been frequently reported that of many seams between 0.0001 mD 0.01 mD, which extremely low compared to (1–100 mD). It therefore wonder how closely method measures permeability. Resolving question will allow knowledge experience management be shared mines. This investigated numerical modelling desorption known model’s rate method. A total 126 simulations were run with various input reservoir parameters. The results suggest estimates at accuracy 85% 100%, adequate for mine pre-drainage design For high diffusion (e.g., content short time) Darcy permeability), these errors are reduced.
